Does Insurance Cover Clear Braces?

FAQs
Is Invisalign painful?
By its nature, any orthodontic treatment will involve some discomfort. Anyone who tells you otherwise is not being entirely honest. However, this discomfort is typically mild and not present at all times for most patients. The first few days to a week after you start a new set of aligners usually come with some soreness. This soreness may also feel more noticeable when biting down. Still, Invisalign is generally considered notably more comfortable compared to traditional braces.
Is Invisalign right for me?
Theoretically, you can have Invisalign at any age. While having orthodontic treatment during adolescence is most convenient, you can also have it as an adult. Invisalign works best for patients with good oral health who have mild to moderate tooth alignment concerns.
Alternative options include:
- Tooth Extraction: In some cases, removing a tooth early enough can prevent crowding down the road. We usually only recommend this in cases of severe crowding.
- Traditional Braces: Modern Invisalign can help a broad range of patients improve their smile and oral health.
However, very severe cases of tooth misalignment may require a traditional orthodontic approach.
How long does Invisalign take?
Our patients need an average of 12 to 18 months to complete their Invisalign treatment. Simple misalignment can even be corrected in as few as 6 months. Complex cases, though, may require more than 18 months. Tips to keep your treatment to a minimum timeline include:
- Wear your aligner trays as much as possible (for at least 22 out of every 24 hours).
- Attend all your check-up appointments for any treatment updates.
- Maintain good dental hygiene. Health issues could interfere with treatment.
Are the results permanent?
Most patients will see long-term alignment benefits with Invisalign. However, teeth can continue to shift over time. For patients at risk of notable teeth shifting, we may recommend wearing a retainer to maintain results. During your consultation, we can go over what results you can expect based on your facial anatomy. In every case, good oral hygiene at home will work to your advantage.
How much does Invisalign cost?
The cost of Invisalign treatment will depend on the length and complexity of your plan. We provide an estimate based on the expected duration of your treatment and any additional factors that might need to be at play. For example, some patients may first need an expander to make room for their teeth. We will provide you with a personalized quote that breaks down costs and comes with no commitment.
Can I eat what I want during treatment?
With braces, patients had to cut certain foods and beverages from their diet. With Invisalign, you can eat and drink anything you want. That is because you take out the trays during meals and snacks. However, you will need to attentively keep your trays clean. Also, routine consumption of sugary beverages could cause other dental issues.
