Filling & Implants

Providing Patients With Dental Fillings and Implants

Tooth-Colored Fillings/Bonding

If your tooth is damaged, a dental filling may be necessary to repair it. At Encino Family Dental, we use tooth-colored fillings or bonding to help restore both the appearance and functionality of teeth.

Bonding involves the application of a composite resin to a discolored, chipped, or otherwise damaged tooth. Compared to amalgam fillings, bonding produces aesthetically pleasing and natural-looking results. It can be used to fill in the gaps between teeth, repair small tooth fractures, fill cavities, and even change the color and shape of teeth.

Dental Bonding Procedure

  • We administer a local anesthetic to the necessary area.
  • Next, we use the appropriate tools to remove the damaged parts of your tooth.
  • Afterward, we select a shade of composite material that matches the color of your natural teeth.
  • We then shape the composite to fit the structure of your damaged tooth.
  • Once we’re done fitting the filling, we harden the composite material using a special light.
  • Finally, we trim and polish the filling so that it looks and feels like your natural teeth.

A Note on Amalgams

Our dental practice does not offer amalgams or metal fillings. We believe that there are plenty of alternatives that are much better and more conservative. More tooth structure needs to be removed to accommodate amalgam fillings, damaging otherwise healthy teeth. In addition, amalgam expands and contractors with heat and cold, which can result in tooth fractures.

Dental implants are the next best thing to real teeth. They look and feel very natural, and their function is as close to that of your teeth as possible.

An implant is a small metal screw that serves as an anchor for a replacement tooth. It is placed by making a tiny cut into the gums above the site of the missing tooth. The implant is screwed into the jawbone and the cut is sewn shut. When the implant has fused successfully into the jawbone, the replacement tooth can be placed.

Dental implant surgery is done by dentists with specialized training, and the success rate is approximately 98%. Proper maintenance can help implants last a lifetime.

Advantages of Dental Implant Surgery

Preserves Bone Structure

Teeth help preserve the jawbone. Without them, it will eventually deteriorate. This may cause a change in your facial structure.

Unlike bridges that are only placed above the gumline, implants take the place of missing tooth roots. Simply put, an implant can convince your body that the tooth is still there, preserving the structure and halting the deterioration of your jawbone.

Easy to Maintain

Unlike dentures, food does not get stuck in implants. They are also easy to clean. Implants also do not move around the mouth and do not impede eating and speech.

In addition, implants are better than bridges because they do not affect healthy, natural teeth. Bridges sometimes require healthy teeth to be cut into just to hold the thing into place. They also need to be replaced once or twice throughout a patient’s life. Truly, implants are the gold standard of dental care.
